Chronicals of a crazy lady who MUST cloth 24/7 and to any location!
Oh bother... I wrote this out in August.. After our trip and it got deleted... I wrote it out again in October and it got deleted again.... After I shed a few tears each time, I gave up on it. Here we are in January and I still feel like I need to share!
Our BIG two week trip in July went PERFECTLY! Planes, resorts, cruise ships, resorts and planes!
Yep, thats a heck of a lot of diapers... What can I say.. This mama likes to have lots to choose from! I also had to bring a couple (4) themed diapers for the pirate night arrrrrrrgh!
It went off without a hitch! All 16 days! And it didn't take any planning, or nonsense... Nothing you hear those "part-time" cders talking about is true. About oh how they use sposies on trips because its just too much work....
Hmmmmmmm...
I call BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBS!
If this Wylde bunch can do it, you can too!
So we left our house of course it was my sisters birthday weekend, so we had to stop by my mums. We stopped by my mums for the night and then we were off to my MIL's house to get ready to go. That evening before going to sleep I washed up all the diapers we had used since we left our house (handwashed them, it took about 5 mins so don't get all grossed out! lol) and put them up to dry on her clothesline in her basement. I didn't need them so they stayed there while we were away.
The kids slept great... Me, not so much.. I was WAY too excited!! Anyways..... haha The morning diaper got rinsed up and hung too.. And we were off!
Diaper changes at the airport... MAN am I ever glad I have a great wet bag... lol...
Oh, I should mention.... ha ha.. For the first time EVER my wee man pooped out of his diaper... A pooporella... Of course, mum (me) got it so it wasnt drama... It was on accent so I got to chill with some poop pants for a bit.. But I just went to the bathroom and cleaned my pant leg off and we were good to go.
More diaper changes.....
We made it to the resort!! WAhoooo! Our first room had a washer (top load) and dryer right in our room, SCORE! And here comes the best part................................... Diaper safe detergent... Yep.... I mean, it wasnt my arm and hammer, but it was good enough... I had forgotten my detergent... haha.. But it was A-O-KAY! First thing I did was wash me some diaper! Yeeeeeeeeeeeehaw!
Anyways, enough of that.. haha...
So more diaper changes... We hang out for a couple days.. The night before we leave for our cruise I do another big load of diapers. The morning diaper I rinse out like crazy and toss in the wet bag.
More diaper changes....
We were on the ship! And it was fantastic!!!!! I honestly could write a university level 10,000 word essay on how amazing Disney Cruise Line is..... If you EVER ever EVER have the opportunity to go, DO IT! Like I told a very good friend of mine, if you have to go into debt to go, DO IT! Its worth it! (And she says WOW that's like crazy coming from you... Yep.. And I mean it!)
Anyways... We were just down the hall from the laundry station... I go look... DUN DUN DUN... The dreaded front loader.... GASP! I was instantly worried for my diapers.... But I though.... Wait.. I am the diaper guru.. I got this.. Pfffft! And, IT WAS FINE! lol.. I did diapers mid trip and hung them all over our cabin. It was fabulous! And soooooooooooo freakin easy! If someone can find a little bit of time to do diaper laundry on the freaking Disney cruise.... Anyone can find time! Our days were backed, FUN and exhausting!
More diaper changes.... 5 different kids of water... No fuss, no muss, nooooooooo stink!
Back to the resort... More diaper changes... This time... Laundry is on the first floor... Booooooooo and I had been so pampered up till this point... Thankfully I only had to do 1 load. Again, easy, peasy, lemon squeesy... :D
And before we knew it, our vacation was over. We had to wave goodbye to Star Island, Sea World, Disney Cruise Lines and Florida. We had been having such a blast our two weeks had flown by!
And yes, we cloth diapered the entire time. Not a disposable went on my sweet boys bum! We did not have a singular issue! It was amazing and blissful! I would do it again in an insant!
Oh, and no issues when we got back to our own water! haha... I always have loved that "its my water" "its the different water" comments I see on a lot of cloth diaper sites/page. GUESS WHAT! Its not your water. Water rocks. Water is SUPER important for your diapers. WATER WATER WATER! Its a cloth diapering mamas best friend. When I thought to myself, "Self, are you sure we wont have diaper issues, like, maybe?" I just did some extra rinses...
I find it funny that I get the same questions from people over and over and over again...
If something is going funky with your diapers..... Think and reflect. If nothing works.. Email me!
1) Am I using enough water? (Soaking, Rinsing, WATER!)
2) Is my detergent causing issues? (Even some "cloth diaper detergents" can seriously funk up your diapers, like RNG)
3) Am I doing something differently?
I hope that was informative... It certainly wasn't as good as the first time I wrote it.. But I tried!

Wet Bag Reviews
A wet bag is a VERY important part of your stash..... A couple of them are usually a good idea.
Personally I don't care for wet bags made of PUL. They don't contain smells very well though they have many many cute prints and are not usually very pricey. While they are cute and cheap, they won't hold those smells in over a long trip and tend to fall apart with regular washing.
I prefer something that has a fabric outer (not only does this make them wash very well, it gives you the option of endless prints for your pleasure) and a barrier of some kind on the inside. I make this very kind of wet bag and I think they are the best. A nice fabric and a medical grade antimicrobial inner.
Not only do they keep the dampness in, they keep any and all smells in over any length of trip!
If you would like information on where to get yourself some of this barrier, or, if you would like me to make a bag for you shoot me an email wyldebums@hotmail.com. There are also some various Etsy stores that sell this kind of wet bag.

What you think!
Sarah (Barrie, ON)I found Bummis delaminated quickly, XL planet wize is still going stong. XL Bububebe is awesome aside from the fact that the strap is not strong enough for the size of the bag :( but I really like that it is made with procare instead of pul.
Jill (Canada)I have an itti bitti minky wetbag and a bunch of Diaper Palz bags. The itti bitti is gorgeous, but the zipper is about an inch and a half down one side instead of right at the end. Aesthetically it's great, but the zipper placement makes getting things into it annoying at times. Now the Diaper Palz bags are great. Two sizes plus a huge travel bag. All have a snapping strap at one corner so you can hang it from whatever is handy. Great prints and colours, holds everything in including smell, sturdy zippers, and the best prices I've come across. They aren't the fanciest things around, but they can't be beat for functionality!
Melana (Quinte West, ON)
I have a large and medium from Sling Sisters.... The medium I love and the large I somewhat hate. The inner PUL in the large is thin and leaks which means the outer cloth is constantly wet and defeating the purpose. The medium is great th...ough, the PUL is nice and thick and no leaks. They come in great prints (that are not childish), however, after a few washes they look really worn and faded. The zipper closer is nice and secure. Overall I probably wouldn't run out and buy another one, I would search out a different brand. They are not cheap and I do not think they are worth the money I paid for them. I give them a 5/10.
Jennifer (Fonthill, ON)Wylde Bums. I am really pleased with my small wet bag. The stitching is very good and secure, same with the zipper. The fabric and zipper match! (that kind of surprised me as I wasn't expecting that)
As for the size, I wanted a bag to hold my wipes. It is perfect! I also have a large (super large) size wet bag! Construction is great! I am able to stuff it full with diapers or with dirty clothes and just dump it in the washer. Great quality for the price! Totally would recommend Wylde Bums!

Cheryl (Hamilton, ON)I love my wetbags Wylde Bums made! I found the bummis one a bit thin so they started to smell after a day.
Ashley (Trenton, ON)
I've got a Planet Wise wet/dry bag (medium) and I'm in love with it!
Pros:
The wet section keeps in wettest and smells with out absorbing the smells. This means that I'm not carting stench around and can use it for more than one outing without having to wash it. I actually wash it a about once a week, whether I need to or not, usually not!
The dry section easily holds my change pad, wipes container, CJ's sick or other bum cream, a drying cloth, and my diapers.
There's lots of space. I usually take 6+ diapers. They easily fit in the dry section on my way out and either all in the wet section or distributed through the wet and dry sections on my way home.
Cons:
It takes forever for it to dry when I hang it indoors. Outdoors not so bad.
I only have one :(

Libbi (USA)I have wonderful things to say about Kushies. They came ia 2 pack for $10. Totally worth it.I got the large and they hold about 4-5 RaR's and do not leak. I have been using them for a about a year and a half. I also have been using a Thristies that is about the same size, maybe a little bigger. I also have nothing bad to report on it. I have been using it for a year with no problems.
Stephanie (USA)
I have two Alva wetbags, which I love! They are the perfect size to go in a diaper bag, and have two different zippered pockets (Which I love because I can put diapers in the big pocket, and any wet clothes in the smaller pocket). I also ha...ve a Bububibi wetbag, it holds about 30 diapers in the big zippered pockets, and it has a small pocket on the outside that's not zippered, so I don't think I'll use that pocket much. I plan on using the Bububibi wetbag for travel, since it's big enough to hold 3 days of diapers, and has a zipper to hold in the smell.
Jennifer (Belleville, ON)
I have the Fuzzibunz hanging wet bag with the zipper at the bottom. I like that it can hang on a doorknob (we keep one on the back of the bathroom door). I love the zipper on the bottom because I can just unzip and all the diapers fall in...to the washing machine, no problem! It also doesn't have the issue of holding water so it dries quickly.
My old ones are made by Wahmie and the PUL is falling apart on them and we kept it in a garbage can with a lid. Every time I opened it to put one in or to empty it, it was horribly smelly.
Jamie-Lee (Barrie, ON)
Been using my ApplCheeks Size 2 Stoarge Sac and still in the same condition as whenI first bought it! Holds TONS of diapers. mywhole stash about 40ishdiapers:)
Jennifer (Canada)
I can't find the picture, so I will tell you what I like about our Wylde Bums wet bag. I love that ours is HUGE!!! It can hold lots of diapers or dirty clothes from when we have been at the beach or on vacation. The stitching is done really well, NO leaks!!! Our big bag washes well and still looks brand new! We also have a small wet bag that I use as a wipe bag. It is the perfect size for a package of wipes. The wipes stay wet inside and the bag stays dry on the outside! The zipper slides well. When I show off our wipe bag our friends are jealous! We recommend Wylde Bums to everyone!

Cloth Diaper while I am on vacation??? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah??
Yes, yes you can! And we do.. Every, single, TIME!!
I get asked quite often if I cloth diaper while on vacation, visiting family, visiting friends and just generally travelling out of town...... YES! Yes I do! We cloth diaper full time all the time. No destination is an exception!Thankfully for us, our family is VERY supportive of our choice to cloth diaper and we have converted many friends to cloth diapering also!
No matter where we go there is a diaper sprayer, laundry tub, washing machine or toilet ready and waiting for us!
Now, each system/style of cloth diapering is different for travel! Let me explain that.
Pockets. Pockets can be a bit bulky. Stuffed pockets take up a bit more room in your luggage and a lot more room in your wet bag. And lets be honest, not the most practical for packing light! You can only use the cover once before needing to wash it! The good thing about pockets is that both the cover and the insert can be easily washed by hand and hung to dry.
Fitteds. Fitteds (while I have a very fond love of them) are not good at all for travelling. The are SUPER bulky.. They take up A LOT of space and are not easily hand washed and take forever to hang dry. (See pic)
AIO. Well.... See fitteds.. lol
Hybrids. To me hybrids make the MOST sense for travel. The covers can be folded VERY tiny and the inserts (depending on which) can take up very very little space. They can be easily hand washed and left to hang dry. You can reuse the cover for over a day should you want to. And of course when it comes to the wet bag, you can fit many many many diapers in there!
So, in my opinion... If you want an easy, light and option that just makes sense.... Travel with hybrids!
Now, a BIG BIG part to travelling with your beloved diapers is a good wetbag! (See wetbag reviews).
Without a good wetbag, you will DYE from the stench... Its true!
We have had a few different wetbags.. But, I found each of the PUL wetbags let the smell out.. YUCK! So, I decided to look up a waterproof barrier that wouldn't or so I hoped let the stink out, as we travel for days at a time often.
I found some great medical grade barrier, and, WyldeBums was born! lol...
With that said, I know some people who love their PUL wetbags... Again, see the wetbag review if you are curious!
I will share a few different trips of ours and then give you some tips and tricks!
When we go to my grandmas/mums/best bud's (all of them) house its almost like being at home we have full use of laundry facilities and laundry tubs.. So, easy peasy!
When we go to my mother in laws its a bit different. She loves that we cloth diaper and things we rock for doing so.. However, she doesn't have a washer and dryer. Thankfully, she has a laundry tub!
So all of the poopy diapers and the heavily wet overnight diapers go down for a good rinse and then get hung on the laundry tub to dry a bit, and then, pop into the wet bag. So far we haven't stayed there long enough to need to wash, but we would either be washing my hand and hanging to dry or pop in to the laundry mat for a quick wash and then hang at home to dry.
On our trips to resorts with in room laundry facilities we go two or three days between washes depending on the number of diapers I have packed and just treat it as if we were at home, with one exception. Generally there is no laundry tub, boooooo! So we rinse in the sink or bathtub any super wet overnight or poopy diapers, then hang over the outside rail or the shower stall. After each rinse we give the tub/sink a good washing and carry on.
Our longest trip so far (Until July hehe) with our cloth was our 10 day long move (thanks to the military! bhahahaha).. We had one rough patch.. Which I will get to.. haha... So, we started our trip.. Booked into a hotel while they packed up our stuff and loaded the truck (3 days).. We did our normal away without laundry tub deal.. Rinsing any poopy or overnight diaper and hanging to dry in the shower. On day 4 we went to one of my besties house <3 and I said, BRAE!!!! I need to wash my diapers.. lol.. I used my favourite print!! Of course, she said you know where the utilities are, go to! So, we washed our diapers on day 4! Then on day 5 we were off to our new location and booked into another hotel for 5 days.. No laundry tub, no in room laundry, just coin laundry down the hall..
No biggy! We rinsed each and every diaper out very well and hung them in the shower to dry.. And when we got low we just packed up the ones that were hanging dry in the shower.. Occasionally we would toss the stained ones in a bag.. Welllllll.. Let me tell you! My husband had a FIT one morning... I came to find out that bag REAKED.. Yep.. REAKED.. And it was a worse smell coming off the bag than what was left in the diaper.. My husband said THATS IT! I am done with these PUL wetbags, you are making us a WyldeBums bag as soon as your sewing machine is unpacked.. haha.. Yep, I had been making wetbags for about 5 months and hadn't yet made myself one! Well.. I emptied the bag and the diapers and gave EVERYTHING that Mack wasn't wearing for the next few hours a good soaking.. After the soaking I rinsed everything out and away we went again. Had I had my detergent, I would have used some of it.. But water did the job and we got through! 10 long days without any facilities at all!
In July we will be going on a 2 week long vacation to Florida.. We will be flying in... Staying at a resort for 3 days.. Then, boarding a Disney cruise ship for 6 days, then back to the resort! We WILL be cding on the plane, we WILL be cding at the resort, we WILL be cding on the ship!
- I will be packing my Flip and GroVia hybrid covers for day time use with our very thin, very awesome Alva 3-layer bamboo inserts. Our little guy (14 months today) uses just one most times during the day.
- For overnight I will either be bringing fitteds and wool OR pockets. Generally when we travel for more than a couple nights I bring 3 or 4 overnight stuffed pockets or fitteds and once we put the last one on we start the wash.
- I will be bringing two of my WyldeBums wetbags and possibly some soap for washing.
Before you leave on your trip....
Don't forget about those lovely diapers in your diaper pail!!!!! It would be most unpleasant to come home to diaper who have been sitter for days or weeks.. :S
If we don't have time to wash before we go, because I have been busy or forgotten.. I pop them in the washer for a quick rinse and leave them..
If not, I give them a washing and they hang on the line my hubby put up for me in the basement until we return... JUST DONT FORGET ABOUT THEM!!! lol... You may loose a diaper!
Cloth diapering and travelling ROCKS! Does it sometime take some adjustment, YES! Is it easy, YES! Does it make sense, YES!
I think the convenience of cloth is incredible.. I honestly don't understand why people use disposables.. At all! I don't get it!
When I travel with cloth I don't have to leave stinky garbage at my loved ones houses, I don't have to try and find a garbage every time I have to change a diaper.. I don't have to worry about ANYTHING! I just get to do exactly what I do every single day!
When we travel, our kids don't leave garbage everywhere we go! Do yours?
Tips and Tricks and Things to think about!! With love from Mrs Wylde! :D
1) Where are you going?
Ask yourself.. What kind of facilities will be there? How much will it cost to wash my diapers? Will it be better just to take 5mins and hand wash? How often will I have to wash?
Have a plan before you get there... Then you won't have to worry about it! And plan accordingly.
2) How long are you going?
Do you have enough diapers for your whole trip? Do you have enough room to bring all your diapers? What diapers do you want to bring? How many days do you want to go without washing?
3) What diapers do you use when at home?
If all you use are fitteds at home, and you are going to a place that isn't cd friendly.. Is it worth it to bring your diapers? Is it worth it to get some hybrids? or pockets? Or, is it better for you to just go with disposies (hopefully the answer to this is NO)?
4) Night time?
What does your little one need for overnight? Is it practical to bring whatever that is? Is it more practical to use disposies overnight? Do you have a place to rinse the overnight diaper?
5) How many diapers does your little one use in a day?
This will give you an idea of how many diapers you will need. How often you will need to wash.. What you will need to bring.
6) How to store your diapers?
What will you put them in while away? Do you need a new wetbag? A bigger wetbag? A better wetbag?
Important questions to ask yourself before you get moving!
7) Hand wash?
Do you want to hand wash? Willing to hand wash? How do you hand wash?
Hand washing is EASY! Most times you wont even need to use soap! It takes only minutes and is worry free!
9) Hand to dry?
Where? How?
We usually use a raining outside or the shower stall.. But we have also brought and used a small rope from the dollar store to make a hanging line.
10) What to pack?
This is the BIG one! What diaper essentials should you pack?
You don't want to forget anything.. Especially if you are going to a place that wont have the things you need!
- Diapers of course... Any print, insert, kind you want.. Don't forget any!
- IMPORTANT! Even if your baby NEVER gets a rash, pack a cloth friendly diaper cream.. Because if you don't bring it, you will end up needing it!
- Wipes wipes wipes!
- Wetbag... Sounds silly.. But its happened!
- Don't pack all your diapers in your under luggage... Should your bag get lost.... Uh oh! Make sure you pack enough in your diaper bag carry on to get you to the next day!
- Soap.. If your going to need it... And its not something you can buy anywhere.. Pack it!
- If you use wipe wash.. Don't forget it.. If you want it..
- If you travel with dry wipes, as I do.. Its a good idea to have a water bottle packed.. or some wet wipes in a ziploc.
12) HAVE FUN AND ENJOY YOUR AMAZING VACATION WITH YOUR AMAZING FLUFF! And remember, you are NOT causing any harm leaving crazy waste that doesn't leave the earth for over 500 years! You are leaving your beautiful and awesome destination just as you found it. Give yourself a green pat on the back! You deserve it!
What you think!!
Krysta (Canada)
Yep, 4 day trip to niagra falls, cloth all the way, 1 garbage bag of dirty diapers that were rinse before we left lol.
Michelle (Canada)
Yuppers I have, two kidletts by myself 10 hour car trip. It was fine, just had a VERY full wet bag at the other end. (And a LOT of rinsing to do) Then cloth while I was away and cloth on the car ride home. I was staying with family though, so I had access to laundry :) It's not a big deal if you just have the mind set that this is what we do and there isn't another option for us. You figure out how to make cloth work.
Karen (Quebec)
I've done it for long weekends at hotels, trips to the cottage with limited water supply, trips to my parents farm ( use of washer on those visits) Camping but only 2 nights but will have longer trips I hope this summer for camping. THe camping was the best for cd'ing for me anyhow.
Serena (Alberta)
We went on a 7 day long tenting road trip with DS#1 when he was 16 months old and I was 7 months pregnant with DS#2. I brought a small bucket, soap from home, a big wet bag and a rope to hang between trees for drying - worked like a charm and I would absolutely do it again :)
Christina (Canada)
Yup I have. But always to visit family so we were lucky enough to have washers and dryers on the other end. But across the country on an airplane and smaller trips on the ferry.
Crystal (USA)I'll be taking a road trip in two weeks, planning on using cloth diapers all the way...probably going to use flushable liners under the cloth for extra absorbancy though.
Jennifer (Ontario)I have sometimes and haven't others. If I have easy access to a washer I almost ALWAYS CD while away. When we travelled to the Dominican, I took sposies and this last trip out west I took sposies for lack of space in the suitcases. I almost exclusively use fitteds, which would be VERY difficult to wash porperly by hand, so that really isn't an option.
Julia (Canada)Depend on the traveling. We went away for thee days so I just had a BIG wet bag and washed them all when I got home. If im visiting family I'll do laundry there. If I'm flying I use disposibles because I already have SO much to carry...
Adam (Canada)We took our son away to Dominican in feb and we used flats while we were there . I believe we also had mutts and kawai's for the trip down and back. We washed the flats in the bathtub soaked them in the sink and dried them on the railing or in the closet with the hair dryer blowing on them ( We will save that story for another day ). Had no problems and would do it again.
Lauri (Canada)
I tried. We did disposables on the drive & cloth when we got there. It was too much for me though. We were out and about and my husband had just had shoulder surgery (reason for trip). Disposables were easier and one less thing for me to deal with.
On an actual vacation it might have been easier for me to do cloth.
Darla (Trenton, ON)
I used to take all my supplies etc for use while at the destination but (blush) would use throwaways while en route.
Liisa ( Canada)
We always use cloth for short trips - 2-3 days or so. We have also used cloth on longer trips if the destination has a washer/dryer. Once we used cloth when camping, and dh drove into town to wash the dipes at a laundromat half way through. Honestly, though, it was not very easy because they did get a bit smelly. We have gotten a little lazier now and on longer trips use disposables.
Amy (Trenton, ON)We CD from BC to Ont lat summer! We stopped ever third day and did laundry at a laundromat. The only down side was drying the diaper in the dryer, we ALWAYS hang to dry. We had planned to use disposables but our last day at home she blew out of the disposables TWICE so we tossed the laundry basket full of clean diapers and our soap in the trunk and away we went! CD'ing while on the road was not hard at all, it easy to pull off the road any wheres and just change her, we didn't have to worry about keeping stinky dirty disposables in the car or tossing it in the ditch!
Cheryl (Hamilton, ON) I did the grovia with the disposable pads. I was worried about wet bag smell in car (and it leaving a stink, like in Seinfeld), but I couldn't imagine not having a wrap incase there were any explosive poops.
Julie (BC Canada)Nope, it is the only time I use disposables.
Monica (Petawawa, ON)I normally do even though I only travel to my moms lol but every single time I go there and do my diaper laundry my diapers get all messed up because of the soaps she uses in her washer and or the water diffrence. Its frustrating and although I dont know if I could even bring myself to stick a sposie on him next time I'll be trying to save myself the stress of stinky ammonia stenched diapers!
Dana (Canada)I do cloth when I go visit my parents for the weekend and when camping. I also did cloth on a 12 day trip to Ontario. Green line diapers work best for me when travelling.
Abby (?)
On the trip to and from no....I don't want a stinky diaper in the car for hours but when we get there yes.
Cassandra (?)We have CD for the last two days of our trips so far (baby is 6m old), so 3-day weekends involve one day of using disposables. I only have enough diapers for three days' worth of diapering, this allows us to use cloth the day after we get h...ome while I do laundry. I don't like to let the diapers go for more than 2 days without washing in general anyway, and am not comfortable with using coin laundry for the diapers (ewww, yeast or other nasties). Maybe I would use a hotel laundry service, but only with prior arrangements with management regarding using our detergent, etc...
I am terribly picky about washing our diapers, lol!
Leanne (Canada)I used flip covers and disposable inserts. It's nice to have a holiday away from diaper laundry :)
Kim (Ontario)I did when we visited my dad in Iowa but wont be for our trip to Nova Scotia, PEI I dont have enough of a stash to get us through the 9 days nor do I want to visit a laundrymat on vacation.
Sarah (Ontario)When I travelled to the US in November we used disposables, because I didn't want our cloth diapers to get 'contaminated' if you will, with the fragrances and residues in the machines we would have been borrowing. My stash is only big enough to take us through two days so we'd have to wash while away.
Lindsey (Bancroft, ON)I never really thought of it because it's just what we do lol. I have a ton of inserts so I just lay the insert ontop of the pocket dipe with a fleece liner overtop so the microfiber isn't against his skin. That way each diaper shell could do 2-3 changes instead of one. I have also washed by hand in hotels and hung to dry on the towel racks. I've gone nine days away with hand washing once in there.
Bridget (Ontario)I was just coming to ask that question! I don't want to buy disposables for a week vacation, was just planning on washing while I'm there. My only concern is finding a giant giant giant wet bag to store dirty ones while in the car and at our destination.
Collen (Ontario)Yep...my inserts are different (AppleCheeks bamboo 2-layer flats), but I do it the same as Lindsey does, to get more uses of the shells (although that's how I use my dipes all the time, but normally just use the shells once). Definitely worth investing in a good wetbag. I'm not a fan of dealing with poop without my sprayer. For DS, he nearly always pooped first new diaper in the morning, so I bought some g-diaper flushable inserts and used those for the first diaper each day. In my case, travelling ran the spectrum from interior camping in Algonquin Park, to staying in a hotel in Toronto. In the park, I just hand washed using 2 pails, but I've since seen online that people have used a (clean) plunger as a 'camp washing machine'...might have to try that for this year's camping trip...like our boat isn't overloaded already, lol!
Jamie-Lee (Barrie, ON)
I just did it to travel to MOntreal to visit family. I brought only my AppleCheeks bc I do not need to unstuff them so easier for family as well. I always used my disposiable liners so poop was easier to clean and didn't have to worry about using a sprayer or having a diaper soak in someone elses toilet. I brought my soap, large wet bag, 2 sm wet bags. I had it all in a duffle bag. when I used one I would put any wipes(disposable) in a small grocery bag and keep that with my lg wet bag in my rm. I would have 1 sm wet bag in the diaper bag and the other was in the house with us( we slept outside in a tent for part of it) I also did a bit of reasearch of the area's water, to see what my washing routinemay be like and I also asked on the cloth diapering boards to see what other's washing routines are like. :)
Crystal (Canada)
Just got back from a 2 week trip visiting family, used gDiapers all the way. Used the flushable liners while driving and changed her any time I took a bathroom break (makes me feel better knowing that in addition to no landfill, there's also no wasted water when flushing :D ). Didn't really need a wet bag while we were at the desination, there were a lot of people and there was always a load of laundry going so I was able to just throw them in with the rest of the clothes.

SunBaby Diaper Review
SunBaby Cloth Diapers
SunBaby diapers are made in China, distributed by the owner/mumma in China!
These are my FAVOURITE pocket diaper EVER! I love them and recommend them to EVERYONE new and old that cloth diapers their babes!
These are my FAVOURITE pocket diaper EVER! I love them and recommend them to EVERYONE new and old that cloth diapers their babes!
Things I love!
- Price. How can you not love the price???? $5/diaper or less.... YES!!!!! Doesnt get much better than that!
- Hip Snaps. Hip snaps are a life saver... I cant tell you... I have bought a few other pocket diapers.. Both cheap and expensive that neglect the hip snap.. Which, results in some MAJOR wing dip.. Basically the diper dips which causes leaks and messes.. Ewww!! Well.. SunBaby has those wonderful hip snaps.. And we have NEVER had a leak with our SunBaby diapers.
- Fit. They fit PERFECTLY! I havent found a diaper that fits my kids quite like SunBaby.. They fit my boys at each stage of growth and made for an excellent cloth diapering experience..
- Prints. The prints are ADORABLE and there is always a good selection of them.. Best part is.. New ones come out every few months... Well, good for people with a diaper addiction like me! lol but really.. They have a print for everyone!
- Resale Value. They sell for the same price you buy them for. Period. If you keep your SunBabys in good shape.. You get 100% resale value.. Not many things offer you that anymore!
- OS. Yep! One size! Saving you even more moula!
Things I don't love!
- Time to ship. They can take between 4-6weeks to ship to your door.. Which SUCKS if you are desperate for diapers. But, apparently there is working being done in this department.. And can you really complain about FREE international shipping??
- Insert. Micro insert is my favourite that I have ever tried.. But, I dont use them because I dont use microfibre. They have recently come out with a bamboo/cotton insert.. It was terribly disappointing.. It was very very thin.. Like a liner, not an insert.
Note: When doing up SunBaby diaper (and what most people who have issues fix and have no further issues) it is VERY important to get the perfect fit to do up the HIP SNAPS FIRST! You do the hip snaps up on either side, the the waist snaps. Make sure the hip snaps are tight!
Cost: Approx $5/diaper but varies based on amount and inserts chosen.
Overall this diaper gets a 11/10! :D

Okay, I've tried all kinds of name brands; Fuzzy Bunz, Grovia, Glow Bug, Mother Ease, Goodmomma, it became an experiment for me ( How else can you have fun changing poop ) and no matter how many I tried I always ended up reaching for my Sun...baby's. SO here's the pro's and Con's that I've found.
PRO’s
Easy to use
Cute prints
Super Affordable 12 for $60 US with FREE shipping
Made by a WAHM in China NOT a Large Mass producing factory
No Wing droop
Nice soft fleece inner that STAYS dry it’s not even damp to the touch when DD soaks the insert
Inserts are Microfiber/Bamboo/or a mix of the two
Fit great especially with the new 2 size system
The pocket actually stays closed unlike some of the other brands we’ve tried
Great Customer service
CON’s
To keep up with demand she has more staff and the quality has dropped slightly
Once a cute print is sold out it’s gone
While I have had no problems with fit, others have. It’s just like any other brand though some fit others better
And they don't sell separately only in groups of 6 or more unless you buy from Sunbaby.ca but then they cost more individually and you pay a lot in shipping :(

Let me start off by saying....I love my sunbabies as if they were my children lol. But like anything in life nothing is perfect but they are pretty darn close ;).
things i <3 the most-The mf inserts are the best ive come across and ive tried 5 brands with mf inserts.
-the diapes have amazingly addictive prints and release new ones often which i LOVE
-they are def best bang for your buck ive come accross but def go mf or no inserts at all.
-hip snaps=must... so i <3 them for that
-One size- though i dont feel the size 2 would fit an 8lb babe the like website says my lo was on the very smallest setting and we started cding at 13lbs
-Available in 2 sizes to fit slim and chuncky babes though i have 1 or each and they fit them both just on different rise settings :)
-Fit is always great NO LEAKS (when using adequate stuffing for my super pee'rs)
-The thing i LOVE the most above everything is the PRICE!!!! can be as low as $4.oo per diaper with no inserts!!
-the email response us great to! They are awesome at answering questions within 24hrs (because of the time difference)
things i not so <3 -The bamboo they now offer is pretty poor quality (company suggests using 2-3 per diape) ive tried 3 with my 4mo at the time and he leaked in 1hr.
-a lot of online forums are reporting poor snap quality in the last few batches...which i have experienced with 2 diapes
-Take FOREVER to get here...30 days from china or pay 6.75 plus shipping more per diape to come from alberta canada....i think ill wait ;).
-Pocket doesnt fit my bummies prefolds which i use for my 2.5yo and for night time us with my 5mo...but it does fit a kawaii prefold with a alva bamboo insert which is trimmer and works better anyways :)

Glow Bug Cloth Diaper Review!
Never heard of them?
Well... Let me tell you a little bit about them!
Glow Bugs are based out of Barrie Ontario! Yep, thats right! A Canadian by mum company!! The diapers are made in China, snaped and shipped out of Barrie. Two mums/friends finding the diaper they were searching for didnt exist decided to make it themselves! And thus, Glow Bug cloth was born!
Now, about the diaper! They are one of my FAV pocket diapers! Yep.. They are POCKETS.. And I only have two favs so you know they must be good! :D
Things I love....
- OS... Yep, one size.
- The rise snaps. There are four sets of rise snaps.. Which makes them fit longer, better and really gets you more bang for your buck!
- Waist snaps. Double row of waist snaps. While I dont like them as much as I like hip snaps they do a pretty good job of keeping everything in its place. My little guy is 13 months old (only 17lbs) but he is only on the second set of waist snaps... Again, bigger bang for your buck.
- Prints. They are adorable and DIFFERENT! When I am looking to add things to my big stash.. I am looking for something I dont have.. And Glow Bug offers me this!
- Double Flap. This is my FAV thing about the Glow Bug design.. I wasnt sure about it at first but I beyond love it! Let me tell you why..... :D So if my DS has a nasty poop.. I can take the insert of out of my diaper at the front.. If my son is saturated in pee, I can take the insert out of the back.. When I pop my insert in through the back I can pull it through the front and easily fold over the front then tuck everything in.. I LOVE IT!
- Customer Service. I have only ever dealt with Sarah.. But she is WONDERFUL! I had a slight problem with one and it was taken care of immediately! No muss no fuss! She was lovely.. Infact.. Anything Ive heard from anyone who has had dealings with them is always 110% positive!
- The micro insert. Now, nothing against Glow Bugs insert itself.. I just dont like, nor do I use, microfibre. Unfortunately they do not offer any other insert choices.
- You must by 12. Again, unfortunately there is only the option of buying a set of twelve with Glow Bugs.. You can not buy them individually.
- Snap in insert. I am not someone who appreciates a snap in insert.. But snapping in the front really doesnt make much sense to me.... Most people I know fold over at the front.. And what happens if the insert is too long.. Where you you fold it over? At the back? Hmmmm...
Cost: 12 cute diapers for $150.00!
Overall I give this diaper a 10/10!
NOTE: Keep an eye out for the new Glow Bug prints coming this summer!

What others think!
Jennifer (Barrie, ON)
In short ... They are cute love the patterns, good price if you want to by a package of diapers. I just don't like them for bigger babies or big toddlers though I have that problem with most pocket dipes these days ... Definitely a good buy for most parents..
Christine (Belleville, ON)
I think the prints are adorable!! But starting to wonder are they really worth the drama? The insert is alright for my LO but lasts about 40mins with my 2.5yo but i have yet to find a mf insert that does any better. They fit my 2.5yo well but he's 27lbs and 3'1"...
Things I don't like-
-Liner is pretty wet feeling even if the inserts isn't soaked.
-wings flop BOO (no hip snaps only double row snaps)
-pocket is pretty big/stretchy I can for extra fluff in... But then can't get a good "seal" around the legs cause the PUL fabric part isn't big enough to cover it.
-the covers take FOREVER to air dry and since I don't put covers in the dry this would be a huge p.i.t.a if they were 100% of my stash.
-the fold in pocket part at the back doesn't work to well I find it comes untucked and wrinkles/bunches up
-about the company itself I HATE that they don't sell diapes individually because yes I want 4 prints but not the other 8 and if I wanna share with friends we arent Gunna get all the prints we want cause we gatta be fair :P
Things I do like
-4 rise options/sizes
-double gussets hold the poop in well for my breastfed LO
-patterns of course are adorable and very attractive to a fluff addict like myself
-the snap in insert is kinda nice though I don't have a prob with inserts falling out so I dont REALLY see the point maybe when LO is older I dunno lol
This is my first review ever lol I'm sure I sound way to picky but you asked so you got it :P
Brae (Orillia, ON)What can I say! I LOVE them! For me cloth diapering quickly became an obsession with prints and glowbugs do not dissappoint! They have 12 cute designs with limited edition prints being released (first one is almost sold out with a second on the horizon) AND 12 new prints being released this summer! Top that off with a diaper that works really well for us- keeps the 'poo-splosions' in the diaper, we have never had a leak (thanks to double gussets), we received 24 inserts that snap in and a wet bag to tote it all around in!
More reviews to come!

Cloth diapering..... Why?
A wonderful lady said to me...... Candice, why? Answer me these questions.....
1. What are the benefits of cloth diapering? (Why convert from disposables?)
2. How does CDing = money saved? When I look at the cost of the special diapers, inserts, etc etc etc (plus laundry costs).... it seems comparable, if not MORE expensive than just stocking up on pampers. Maybe I just don't get it. Do you buy one sized diapers that fit a baby from newborn all the way up to size 2T (or whatever)??? Or do you constantly have to upgrade your sizes?
3. What's the best way to start? Should you go to a baby boutique? Or buy online? How do you know what's going to fit your baby comfortably? (For example, it took a lot of different brand trials for me to finally settle on Pampers for Josh). Is there any way to test-try CDs?
4. Do CDs ever go on sale? I'm clearly shopping in the wrong places because (aside from Kushies which are sold at Walmart and Sears), I've never seen CDs in stores!Well my dear Kat..... Let me tell you why... :)
Well.... Let me tell you!
1) What kind of underwear do you have on right now?
Would you like to trade what you have on for paper and plastic undies?
No eh... Hmmmmmm....
Cloth diapers are made from breathable fabrics that surround wee one with nice soft loveable and cuteness. Most cloth diapers also have moisture-wicking inners to provide a stay-dry feeling on baby's bumbum.
Cloth diapers DON'T have plastic that rubs against babys skin nor does it have anything to dig into baby like many disposable diapers do.
"Have you noticed what disposable diaper commercials advertise? "Cloth-like" outer layers - they know that cloth is most comfortable too!" - CD source.
Cloth diapers is more economical than disposables. Although setting up a stash CAN be a big investiment, they can also be very reasonable, oh, and, cloth can last for YEARS and be used for multiple children. Not only do cloth diapers last, they get better with age because the more you wash them the more absorbent they become.
I mean, the same can be said for disposables, kind of..... They certainly last for years in a landfill.... Inface, about 500 of them.. The diapers your baby will use will still be there after their grandchildrens, grandchildrens, grandchildren have left this earth.....
You can and will save from $500-$2000 from birth to potty training. Wanna hear something awesome...... Cloth diapers can be saved for future children OR sold to get some of that money you sent (keeping in mind its already saved you loads of dough). Yep you read right, you can RESELL your diapers, and they have a pretty darn good resale value too! :)
"The fabrics used in cloth diapers allow for increased airflow inside the diaper which helps prevent diaper rash and keeps baby cooler. Disposable diapers contain chemicals, paper, plastic, and have been reported to cause allergic reactions among other serious health problems." - CD source.
"Disposable diapers leave a trail of waste and pollution from manufacture to disposal - an average of 2.7 tons of non-biodegradable waste each year not counting the waste produced during their production. Disposable diaper packaging instructs parents to dump solid waste into the toilet and flush it away, but most parents aren't aware of that. This means that human fecal matter is going into our landfills where it can leach into groundwater and possibly spread disease. Cloth diapers release solid waste where it belongs - into the sewage system where it is treated with other household waste water. In addition, cloth diapering products can be used until their diapering life is over then made into rags, and will eventually decompose and return to the earth." - CDing source.
Many people debating cloth vs disposable diapers think that cloth diapers are too much work. And even worse, as some of my lovely ladies found, people were VERY unsupportive of their choice to give cloth a try. But, this is a common mistake.. Cloth is very very easy to use. Cloth diapers today have elasticized legs, waists and adjustable closures so they work just like disposable diapers. But unlike disposables, cloth diapers are available in a variety of fabrics and patterns to fit your child's needs and your preferences.
2) Taken from diaperpin.com (Because I wanted to have 100% good info, not just pull it out of my head).
If you are a mother of a baby or young toddler you know that babies need diapers. A majority of parents use disposable diapers for their convenience, but have you ever actually calculated the cost of using disposables? The average baby is in diapers between two to three years and uses between 8,000-10,000 diapers. How much does this equal for the average parent? Allow me to do the math for you: On average, each diaper will cost you about .35.
How did I come to that conclusion? The prices of diapers range between .19 (for the newborn size) to .46 (for the toddler size). So I based the price of .35 on an average of all of these prices combined, because no baby stays in the newborn or even 20 pound range forever. So by calculating the cost of an average diaper by the number of diapers the baby will use, you will spend between $2,800.00 (for 8,000 diaper changes) and $3,500.00 (for about 10,000 changes, which I believe to be a more accurate number). This estimate does not include applicable sales tax or even the gas used to drive to store for those late-night runs for diapers.
So for every child that uses disposable diapers, parents will spend roughly between $3,000.00 to almost $4,000.00 dollars. Unfortunately, when the baby is finished with the diapers, they are gone, poof! You can never use them again. Many parents spend a significant amount of their hard earned money on trash. That is pretty depressing!
Now I can hear many of you in the background shouting, "But wait, washing cloth diapers cost money too!" And they do, just not nearly as much as you think. For starters, washing a load of cloth diapers two to three times per week equals the same amount of water that a young child uses to flush the toilet five times a day. And as far as the energy used to wash AND dry your diapers, you are looking at spending a $1.25 each time you wash cloth diapers (including detergent, a rinse cycle, and drying the diapers). You'll save even more money by drying your diapers on a clothesline.
The first thing many moms will do after hearing this is rush out to the nearest discount store to purchase some inexpensive cloth diapers, but WAIT! Before you do that, please consider that you will get what you pay for, and in the area of diapers, cheaper is not better! My personal introduction to cloth diapering was not a pleasant one until a good friend told me about the "other" diapers that were available by mail order only. The Gerber diapers just don't cut it. Believe me, I know from experience that if you use the cheap products from Wal-Mart, you will have leaks, and lots of them.
3) In my personal option..... Best way to start.... Well... I think you have a few good options here...
I would go to a GOOD (key word here is GOOD) baby boutique.. Take a look at what they have to offer.. TOUCH everything.. TAKE everything OUT of packages and really get a good look, and feel for quality.. ASK questions, heck, text me questions.. :)
Buying online you can get some FABULOUS deals and creat a stash for MUCH cheaper.. You can also buy gently used which will save you loads also..
Like buying disposies, you dont really know what will fit best, which is why it is best to go take a look.. Some babies are easy and everything fits them great.. Some babies are not so easy..
A good store will take things out of packages and let you try them on your babe.. Feel them, play with them and just examine the crap out of them...
Many boutiques have trial diaps that you can take out and try A LOAD of different brands and styles of diaps.. And, if I remember correctly they are pretty cheap for a couple week trial.. Then you get an even better chance to try, test, touch.. Tripple T...
4) Cloth diapers do go on sale, all the time. Companies discountinue colours or patterns and then sell those discontinues at a very reduced price. There are also seconds sales where there may be a stitch off center or something of that nature. But, like anything (except gas) they go one sale here and there and have deals like buy 3 get 1 free, etc.
Regular stores dont carry cloth. THEY SHOULD, but they dont. Its not "mainstream" enough yet. Kushies are sold at stores simply because they sell all kinds of baby stuff and offer them to the store with everything else they have, bibs, towels, cloths, etc.. Its just easy, so they take them.. But, let me assure you, a waste of time and money..
